Simultaneous Storytime

Simultaneous Storytime

Yesterday we celebrated our Makybe Rise Simultaneous Story time. As a whole school activity, classrooms enjoyed sharing a story in the beautiful sunshine. It was also Pyjama Dress Up Day and we were lucky enough to spend the whole day in our pyjamas!

National Simultaneous Story time is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. The official day falls on Wednesday 27 May – due to school photos, we celebrated early!

Every year a picture book, written by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes and bookshops across the country.

By participating as a whole school in National Simultaneous Storytime we aim to:

  • Promote the value of reading and literacy;
  • Promote the value and fun of books;
  • Promote an Australian writer and publisher;
  • Promote storyline activities in libraries and communities around the country.

This year the 2015 National Simultaneous Story time book is The Brothers Quibble by Aaron Blabey. Classrooms had the choice of reading this story or another story by an Australian author that their classroom voted for.
