Pirate Day Friday
On Friday June 12, all students at Makybe Rise participated in Pirate Day Friday. Pirate Day Friday is a national initiative which raises awareness and funds for research into childhood brain tumours. It was started in Perth and is on the same day as white eye patch day (the international fundraising day for Childhood Brain Tumours). Pirate Day Friday began after Conor Colgan was diagnosed with a brain tumour and his dad, Nathan realised how little funding is provided to research childhood brain cancer.
Each student was provided with a white eye patch and had the opportunity to dress up as a pirate in exchange for a gold coin donation. All the money raised went to the Telethon Adventurers. Students also participated in a short lesson to learn more about childhood cancer.
