Scitech
Yesterday Ms Alderdice took eight Year 6 students who have shown a keen interest in Science to Scitech to compete in the annual ‘Brainstorm Challenge Day’.
This year the theme was the ‘Circular Economy’ which was aligned to Goal 12 of the United Nations Global Goals (Responsible Consumption and Production). All groups worked towards designing a prototype that addressed a problem statement: How might we re-purpose waste materials to design a product that improves life at school?
Students used the Empathise – Define – Ideate – Prototype – Test process used globally by many real-world designers and closely aligned to the Design and Technologies curriculum. Each phase of the process required teams to think in different ways as they worked towards innovative design solutions.
Our two teams of four students worked hard all day to come up with a solution to their team’s problem. I am delighted to announce that one of our teams (comprised of Ashlee R, Tara A, Rori S and Evie H) took out first place in their division!
We had an awesome day exploring Scitech and using our problem solving skills to complete the challenge. You can check out some photos from our day below.
