Student Success Week
Students at Makybe Rise celebrated a week of student success from September 21 to September 25.
Each day had a theme that allowed students to consider what success was, how they achieve success and the people in their lives who help them to be successful. Students realised that their notions of success were all different.
In conjunction with Success Week a number of activities were held around the school to allow students to celebrate in each other’s successes.
Judith Locke’s Parent Workshop
Judith Locke, a clinical psychologist came over from Queensland to present workshops for staff and parents on raising confident and capable children. These informative workshops were enjoyed by all who attended. Everyone picked up some strategies to implement with their children on developing resilience and helping them succeed.
Open Night
Our first open night was held in Success Week. Families were invited to come into their child’s classrooms and students proudly displayed their work. Each student selected examples of work to show their families which demonstrated the improvements they had made over the year. Our first open night had a wonderful turnout and was concluded with a spectacular performance by the school choir and the unveiling of the new Makybe School Song.
Sunset on the Rise Art Exhibition
On open night our school art room had its annual art exhibition. Artwork from each class was displayed. Families were able to see the amazing talents and variety of work completed by students in our school.
Photo Booths
On Wednesday morning students had the opportunity to take a photo on arrival at our school to show they are #proudtobemakybe. You can see some of these in the slideshow below.
Career Dress Up Day
On Thursday students came to school dressed up as something they’d like to be when they grow up. Everyone looked amazing!
Spelling Bee
We also held the first whole school spelling bee. Students competed in their classrooms then the winners competed against their Year level and finally a representative from each Year level competed to find a spelling Bee Champion. Congratulations to these Year Level winners

and all students for their participation.
Well done to Faye Hill, our 2015 Makybe Rise Spelling Champion!
Makybe Rise’s Got Talent
The week finished with the finalists from Makybe Rise’s Got Talent performing their acts for the school. Only 10 acts were chosen from the multitude of talented students who auditioned. Dancing, drums, guitar, singing and cheerleading all featured in the final performance. We were all impressed.
Congratulations to Tane Gleeson singing “I See Fire” for being the winner of the 2015 Makybe Rise’s Got Talent Show. The runner up was Nicole and Liberty singing Break Free and in third place Ethan Brennan on drums.
Everyone is proud of the efforts students have put in, not just this week but over the course of the entire year. The involvement of students and families in our school’s everyday activities are what make us all #proudtobemakybe
